The F-150 is to Ford as Ford is to the mainstream auto market. It’s a classic, it’s beloved, it’s reliable, and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. The F-150 full-size pickup truck has been a part of Ford’s vehicle lineup for more than 70 years—ever since production first began on the 1st-generation F-150 way back in 1948.
The 2021 F-150 will usher in the 14th generation of the Ford F-series. For the 2021 model year, the all-new F-150 has been expected to feature some major updates and upgrades to help modernize this classic pickup truck and keep it in competition with other top-selling pickup trucks within its vehicle class. As such, the debut of the 2021 Ford F-150 has been long-awaited by Ford drivers and pickup truck fans. This is especially true since the media debut of this all-new pickup truck was delayed almost two months—from April 29th to June 25th—as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
On June 25, 2020, the 2021 Ford F-150 finally made its official virtual debut on the mainstream auto market. Here are 5 notable features of the all-new 2021 Ford F-150 half-ton pickup truck that is expected to hit the market by the end of 2020.
1. Available Hybrid Powertrain
One of the most notable features of the 2021 Ford F-150 is that it is available with a hybrid powertrain.
Many Ford drivers were concerned that a hybrid powertrain would limit the power of the F-150, but that does not seem to be the case. The 2021 F-150 is expected to hit the market and be as powerful or even more powerful than ever—just with the addition of a hybrid powertrain option for drivers who want to prioritize fuel efficiency and save on fuel costs.
The PowerBoost hybrid powertrain option is equipped with a 3.5-L, twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost engine and a 35-kW electric motor. It uses regenerative braking to charge the lithium-ion battery that helps power it.
2. Customizable Design Options
As a general rule, pickup trucks are not the most customizable vehicles on the auto market. The all-new 2021 Ford F-150, however, is designed to be extremely customizable in order to ensure all buyers are able to get exactly what they’re looking for out of their F-150. The 2021 F-150 comes with an impressive total of 11 different design options, and these options vary depending on which trim level you choose.
The overall exterior design of the Ford F-150 also gets bolder for the 2021 model year. It features a slightly wider stance than its predecessors, which makes it look more imposing. It also comes with a bolder front fascia that helps define this full-size pickup truck as a strong and aggressive model.
3. A Mobile Workspace
One of the most innovative features of the 2021 Ford F-150 is the mobile workspace that is hidden within its center console.
The center console of the all-new F-150 discreetly folds out, which creates a flat work surface that drivers can use while they’re not driving. This workspace is large enough that it is very versatile. It is able to accommodate a laptop, clipboard, or whatever materials you may need to get your work done while on the go.
4. Over-the-Air Updates
There’s no need to take your 2021 Ford F-150 into the dealership for an update. The 2021 F-150 model is capable of over-the-air updates, which means it is able to undergo official manufacturer updates automatically.
The 2021 F-150’s over-the-air update capability also allows for navigation updates to ensure that all the navigation data that is stored in your F-150 remains updated and current at all times.
5. Three Tiers of Power
The 2021 Ford F-150 is available with a Pro Power Onboard system, which equips it with one of three tiers of power: a standard 2.4-kW system, a 2.0-kW system, and a 7.2-kW system.
Even at its lowest tier, the 2021 F-150 is equipped with enough power to run an electric heater, a television, a mini-fridge, a speaker setup, and still have some power left over. This capability allows for the ideal tailgate setup, as well as for more practical uses such as running power equipment on the go.
Despite its official debut, the 2021 Ford F-150 is not yet available for purchase. It is expected to become available to order sometime in October before it officially launches on the mainstream auto market during the last quarter of 2020.
