You’ve never seen a Super Duty like this. The 2020 Ford Super Duty will tackle never-before-toppled obstacles thanks to the new Tremor Off-Road Package.
Shaking up the Super Duty
The F-Series Super Duty is one of Ford’s most versatile truck offerings, and is about to get even more capable. The all-new Tremor package exceeds previous limits of Super Duty off-road capability thanks to state-of-the-art hardware and tech. Ford promises that “this is the most capable off-road Super Duty ever.”
“A growing number of Super Duty customers use their trucks for more than work. They’re fishing, camping and towing boats on weekends and they go off-road, so we designed this truck specifically for them – more ground clearance, bigger shocks, bigger tires and more off-road capability,” said Todd Eckert, Ford truck group marketing manager, in a press release. “Tremor balances what customers demand in terms of work with what they need in the great outdoors.”
The Tremor Off-Road Package won’t sacrifice in other areas to achieve this off-road dominance, with towing and payload ratings similar to non-Tremor models. The Tremor is a workhorse during the week and an adventuring ace on the weekend. The Tremor package is available for XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum F-250 and F-350 Super Duty with all-new 7.3-liter gas V8 or third-generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel.
Shake, Rattle and Roll
Off-road adventures require tough, dependable wheels, and the Tremor packs serious upgrades. A new set of Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac maximum-traction wheels begin the package. Measuring in at an aggressive 35-inch-diameter, these are the largest diameter tires yet available on a heavy-duty truck. They are mounted on a set of 18-inch matte-finished black wheels. Alongside the 2-inch front-end lift and shorter air dam, these impressive new tires give the Tremor package a 10.8-inch ground clearance. The Tremor will tackle best-in-class 33-inch water fording. With 31.65 degrees of approach angle and 24.51 degrees of departure angle, the Tremor offers the best Super Duty angles ever before.
Stability is a key part of tackling the great outdoors, especially while towing a Super-Duty-tier haul. The Tremor’s new progressive-rate springs offer heavy duty towing performance that is smooth and comfortable on the rockiest, ruttiest off-road conditions. While you can rock your head to the tunes inside, noggin-knocking jolts are countered by the rear stabilizer bar, specially tuned for a lower spring rate.
The motion of commotion caused by taking the unpaved path is controlled by new custom 1.7-inch piston twin-tube dampers. Alongside substantial oil volume that serves to keep internal temperatures low, the large cross-section of these colossal shocks works to improve responsiveness. No matter how fast you’re going, the Tremor is prepared for impact; the shocks are tuned for soft damping at slow speeds, and dial up for control over more severe impacts. Special Internal hydraulic rebound soften severe blows from the hardest hits.
The Tremor also includes off-road running boards, able to tuck up next to the body for damage control, as well as extended-axle vent tubes and the time-tested, beefy skid plates found on FX4 models.
Engineering the Epicenter
When it comes to driving modes, The 2020 Ford Super Duty Tremor has quite the collection. The Tremor allows customers to choose the setting best suited to driving conditions. Turn on normal for everyday use, tow/haul for optimized performance when trailing cargo, eco to optimize for fuel economy, slippery when icy conditions slicken the road, and deep snow/sand for low-traction conditions require maximum grip.
Off-road radical technology continues with a locking rear differential with electronic shift-on-the-fly engagement alongside a new Dana limited-slip front differential. Depending on the driving mode, the front axle detects when a tire has lost traction and applies the brakes to send power to the wheel that still has traction.
Rocks are no longer an obstacle thanks to the unique new rock-crawl mode, which is optimized to operate in 4×4 low and is enabled by the standard TorqShift 10-speed automatic transmission. Surmounting stones with ease thanks to the two powerful engine choices. Tremors equipped with the 7.3-liter gas engine have a 53:1 crawl ratio while those equipped with the 6.7-liter diesel engine have a 44:1 crawl ratio.
All of these innovative, incredible new features can be yours when the Tremor Off-Road Package for the 2020 Ford Super Duty launches later this year.
