As a subcompact SUV, the Ford EcoSport has quite a bit of competition. Subcompact SUVs comprise one of the most popular vehicle classes in the auto industry. They’re agile, fuel-efficient, offer a good amount of storage space and enough room for an average family, and they tend to be some of the most stylish vehicle model options on the market. We want to talk about the Ford EcoSport performance.

If you’re in the market for a subcompact SUV, you have plenty of choices—in fact, the sheer amount of subcompact SUV models designed and produced by major automakers around the world can make it very overwhelming to try to choose a vehicle within this segment.

The all-new Ford EcoSport is a subcompact SUV that has recently hit the market for the 2021 model year. While Ford is renowned for their pickup trucks, they do design and produce other types of vehicles—including subcompact SUVs. So how does the Ford EcoSport’s performance measure up to other subcompact SUVs within its vehicle segment? Keep reading to learn more about how well the Ford EcoSport performs on the road.

  1. Multiple-Engine Options

The 2021 Ford EcoSport is available with two engine options. The engine that comes standard for all 2021 EcoSport models is a turbocharged 1.0-L EcoBoost I-3 engine that delivers 123 horsepower and 125 lb.-ft. of torque on the road.

The other alternative engine option—which is only available on EcoSport models that are equipped with all-wheel-drive—is a 2.0-L four-cylinder Ti-VCT engine that offers a more impressive 166 horsepower and 149 lb.-ft. of torque.

Both of these engine options pair with a six-speed automatic transmission and are available with standard hill assist and engine Auto Start-Stop.

  1. Easy to Maneuver

The 2021 Ford EcoSport is a high-performing subcompact SUV that offers a fun and care-free driving experience on the road. It is very agile and responsive, which makes it more fun to drive—especially for drivers who value a sporty feel on the road.

In addition to being enjoyable to drive, this subcompact SUV is small and responsive enough that it is also easy to drive—even when you’re maneuvering into a tight parking space or rounding a sharp corner.

  1. Standard Hill Assist

All models of this all-new subcompact SUV from Ford come with standard hill assist. This feature makes it easier and safer to drive up steep hills in your EcoSport.

Standard hill assist prevents the EcoSport from rolling backward even on the steepest hills by engaging the vehicle’s brake system in order to hold this subcompact SUV in place for up to two seconds at a time as you move your foot from the brake pedal to the accelerator.

  1. Available Intelligent 4WD

Also available with Intelligent 4WD, the 2021 EcoSport is prepared to provide as much traction as is needed in a wide range of different situations on—and off—the road.

Intelligent 4WD comes as a standard feature for 2021 EcoSport models that are equipped with the optional 2.0-L Ti-VCT engine. This feature usually powers one axle at a time, which keeps the EcoSport in two-wheel drive most of the time. However, when additional traction is needed on rougher terrains such as while off-roading, the Intelligent 4WD system maximizes traction by engaging both axles at the same time.

This Intelligent 4WD system both improves fuel efficiency and also lends versatility to the 2021 EcoSport by helping this subcompact SUV adapt to a wide variety of terrains ranging from ice to gravel.

  1. Built-In Auto Stop-Start Technology

The 2021 Ford EcoSport is available with Auto Stop-Start technology. This means that the 2021 EcoSport’s engine automatically shuts off when this subcompact SUV comes to a complete stop and idles for a certain number of seconds—such as at a red light, while parked, or in backed-up stop-and-go traffic. When the driver takes their foot off of the brake pedal, the engine automatically turns back on and allows the driver to accelerate without hesitation.

This feature improves the fuel efficiency of the Ford EcoSport, which both saves drivers money on fuel costs and helps them reduce their carbon footprint and contribute positively to the environment. The 2021 EcoSport offers impressive fuel efficiency of 27 MPG on city streets and 29 MPG on the highway.
